Internal steel French doors
Internal steel French doors are a pair of glazed steel doors that meet in the middle, hung in an opening between two rooms. They are the classic way to connect a living room and dining room in a period house while keeping the option to close the rooms off.

How internal steel French doors work
French doors work well in the wide openings found in Victorian and Edwardian houses, where the original doors were lost when the rooms were knocked through. They can be fitted on their own, or with fixed side panels and a glazed top light to fill a wider or taller opening.
We hang the doors on concealed or traditional butt hinges with a flush bolt on the secondary leaf, and fit lever handles in the finish you choose. Thresholds are not needed inside the house, so the floor runs straight through.

Questions about internal steel French doors
How much do internal steel French doors cost?
A pair of internal steel French doors usually costs £3,200 to £6,000 fitted, including VAT. Side panels, top lights and specialist glass add to the price.
Can French doors fit an existing opening?
Yes. We measure the opening after any plastering and make the frame to fit. If the opening is not square, the frame is set out to suit.
Do internal steel doors need a threshold?
No. Inside the house we leave a small gap under the doors so the flooring runs straight through without a step.
Can the doors be locked?
Yes. We can fit a sashlock with a key or a privacy turn, and a flush bolt on the secondary leaf keeps the pair secure.
Which way do the doors open?
They can open into either room. We check furniture, radiators and switches on survey so the doors swing clear.
Can I match existing period details?
Yes. Bar layouts, handle styles and arched top lights can be drawn to suit the house, and we can match an existing door colour.
