External steel doors
External steel doors are glazed steel doors built for outside walls, with thermally improved frames, double glazing, weather seals and secure locking. They are most often fitted as French doors or single doors with side lights opening from a kitchen extension onto a garden.

How external steel doors work
Unlike internal doors, external steel doors need a weathered threshold, drainage and multipoint locking. We design the threshold with your builder so it meets the finished floor inside and the patio outside, with the right step or level access detail.
External doors can be combined with fixed glazed panels and steel windows in one wall, so the whole rear elevation reads as a single steel screen. Frames are galvanised and powder coated to resist the weather.

Questions about external steel doors
How much do external steel French doors cost?
A pair of external steel French doors with side lights usually costs £5,500 to £11,000 fitted, including VAT. Wider screens and extra fixed panels cost more.
Are external steel doors secure?
Yes. We fit multipoint locking and secure hinges, and steel frames are inherently strong. Ask us about doors tested to recognised security standards if that matters for your insurance.
Can I have a level threshold?
Yes. A level threshold needs drainage and careful detailing with your builder, and we plan it before the floor and patio levels are set.
Do steel doors let in draughts?
Modern external steel doors use weather seals and double glazing, and when fitted correctly they are draught-proof.
Can external doors match my steel windows?
Yes. We design doors, side lights and windows together so the bar lines and colour match across the elevation.
What maintenance do steel doors need?
Keep the drainage slots and threshold clear, wash the frames occasionally and lubricate hinges and locks once a year.
