What makes a steel screen cost more?
Size is the biggest factor, because more steel and more glass take longer to fabricate and glaze. Doors add cost, with pivot and sliding doors costing more than a simple hinged leaf because of the hardware. Laminated, acoustic and reeded glass cost more than clear toughened glass, and a non-standard RAL colour adds a little to the powder-coating cost.
Site conditions matter too. Upper-floor flats without a lift, restricted parking, raked or curved shapes and fire-rated requirements all add time. We price these honestly at survey rather than adding them later.
Is steel-look aluminium cheaper?
Yes. A steel-look aluminium screen often costs roughly 40 to 50 percent less than the same layout in genuine steel. From across a room the look is similar; close up, steel has slimmer bars and crisper joints. We can price both side by side so you can decide.
What is not included in a screen price?
Structural work, such as removing a load-bearing wall and fitting a beam, is done by your builder before we measure. Making good, decorating and flooring are normally done by your builder or decorator after we fit. We list exactly what is and is not included on every quote.
How can I keep the cost down?
Keep pane sizes regular, choose clear toughened glass, stick with textured black and fit a hinged door rather than a pivot or slider. Letting us survey once the opening is plastered avoids remeasuring, and grouping several screens into one visit reduces fitting time.
