Steel windows
Steel windows are window frames made from hot-rolled steel sections, galvanised against corrosion and powder coated, then double glazed. Steel is strong enough to hold large panes in very slim frames, which is why steel windows have the narrow sightlines that timber and uPVC cannot match.

How steel windows work
Modern steel windows use thermally improved sections and sealed double-glazed units, so they can meet current energy rules for replacement and new windows. They suit contemporary extensions as well as period homes, and they can be made with side-hung, top-hung or fixed lights in any combination.
Every window is galvanised before it is powder coated, which protects the steel from the inside of the section outwards. We survey the openings, check the building regulations route, and fit with weather seals and finishing trims to suit brick, render or timber cladding.

Questions about steel windows
How much do steel windows cost?
Steel windows usually cost £1,400 to £3,500 per window fitted, including VAT. Large fixed lights, curved bays and heritage detailing cost more. We quote the whole house after survey.
Are steel windows energy efficient?
Modern thermally improved steel windows with double glazing can meet the energy rules for replacement windows in England, which currently set a U-value of 1.4 W/m²K or better. We confirm the figure for your specification.
Do steel windows rust?
Steel windows are galvanised and then powder coated, which protects them well. Keeping drainage clear and touching up any chips keeps them in good condition for decades.
Do I need building regulations approval for steel windows?
Replacement windows must meet building regulations for energy, ventilation, safety and fire escape. The work is signed off through a competent person scheme or building control, and we explain the route for your job.
Can steel windows be used in a new extension?
Yes. Steel windows and glazed walls are a popular choice for rear extensions, and they can be detailed to match steel doors in the same opening.
How long do steel windows last?
Well-maintained galvanised and powder-coated steel windows have a long service life, and the frames can be recoated in future rather than replaced.
