Fitting internal steel French doors in London
London's Victorian and Edwardian terraces, mansion flats and warehouse conversions are where internal steel screens first became a fixture, usually to pull light from a rear extension into a dark middle room.
Safety glass is standard in every internal pane, and we check whether fire-rated glazing is needed before anything is ordered. You get one fixed written price after survey, with the material, glass and finish named on the quote.
We cover Islington, Hackney, Clapham and Richmond, plus the villages and towns between them. Lead time is 4–6 weeks from signed-off drawings, and we confirm dates in writing when you sign off the drawings.
What we can include
- No threshold: flooring runs through the opening
- Any RAL colour in a textured or smooth powder coat
- Lever handles in black, brass, bronze or stainless
- Butt or concealed hinges, flush bolt on secondary leaf
Internal steel French doors are a pair of glazed steel doors that meet in the middle, hung in an opening between two rooms. Read the full guide to internal steel French doors.

Internal steel French doors in London: questions
Do internal steel doors need a threshold?
No. Inside the house we leave a small gap under the doors so the flooring runs straight through without a step.
Which way do the doors open?
They can open into either room. We check furniture, radiators and switches on survey so the doors swing clear.
How soon can you survey in London?
