Steel pivot doors
A steel pivot door is a glazed steel door that rotates on a pivot set into the floor and head of the frame, rather than on side hinges. Because the pivot carries the weight, the door can be taller and wider than a hinged door and opens with a light, smooth swing.

How steel pivot doors work
Pivot doors suit tall openings, wide studies and loft spaces where a hinged door would look undersized. The pivot is usually offset from the edge, so part of the door swings into each room, which gives the opening its distinctive look.
The floor pivot needs a solid, level base, so we plan it with your flooring contractor. Many pivots include a soft-close or hold-open function, and we fit a pull handle or lever to suit the design.

Questions about steel pivot doors
How much does a steel pivot door cost?
A single glazed steel pivot door usually costs £3,500 to £7,500 fitted, including VAT, depending on size, glass and pivot hardware.
How big can a pivot door be?
Much larger than a hinged door. The practical limit depends on glass weight and the pivot hardware, and we confirm the maximum size for your opening at design stage.
Do pivot doors need special flooring?
The floor pivot needs a solid, level base. We plan it before the floor finish goes down so the pivot sits at the correct height.
Can a pivot door be locked?
Yes, with a floor lock or a lock in the closing edge, depending on the design.
Do pivot doors close on their own?
Some pivots include a self-closing function and others hold open at set angles. We specify the mechanism you prefer.
Are pivot doors suitable for bathrooms?
They can be, with obscure or reeded glass and a privacy lock, though a hinged or sliding door is often more practical in a small room.
