Staircase steel screens in London
Every staircase steel screen we fit in London starts with a free survey at the property, whether that is in Clapham, Islington or a village nearby.
Fitting staircase steel screens in London
London's Victorian and Edwardian terraces, mansion flats and warehouse conversions are where internal steel screens first became a fixture, usually to pull light from a rear extension into a dark middle room.
You get one fixed written price after survey, with the material, glass and finish named on the quote. Because each frame is drawn from your measurements, the staircase steel screen fits the opening you have, not a stock size.
We cover Islington, Hackney, Clapham and Richmond, plus the villages and towns between them. Lead time is 5–7 weeks from signed-off drawings, and we confirm dates in writing when you sign off the drawings.
What we can include
- Full-height or half-height screens with handrail details
- Black or any RAL powder coat
- Coordination with building control where approval is needed
- Fire-rated glass and frames where the stair is an escape route
A staircase steel screen is a glazed steel partition that replaces a solid wall or balustrade beside a staircase. Read the full guide to staircase steel screens.

Staircase steel screens in London: questions
Will a stair screen make my hallway lighter?
If there is a window or rooflight at the top of the stairs, yes. The screen lets that light travel down instead of stopping at the stair wall.
Does a stair screen need to be fire-rated?
In many houses with three or more storeys the stair is a protected escape route, so glazing beside it must give fire resistance. Two-storey houses often do not need it. We confirm this at survey and with your building control body.
Are prices higher in London?
Our guide prices are the same nationally. The fixed price for your job depends on its size and specification, plus any site factors such as access or parking, which we note at survey.
