Fitting heritage steel window replacement in County Durham
County Durham projects include stone cottages and Victorian terraces, often with a rear extension that a steel screen connects to the house.
We coordinate with your builder, kitchen fitter or decorator so the opening is ready and nothing is measured twice. Because each frame is drawn from your measurements, the heritage steel window replacement fits the opening you have, not a stock size.
We cover Durham, Darlington, Barnard Castle and Chester-le-Street, plus the villages and towns between them. Lead time is 5–7 weeks from signed-off drawings, and we confirm dates in writing when you sign off the drawings.
What we can include
- Drawings to support listed building or Article 4 applications
- Curved and corner bay windows
- Original-style ironmongery including monkey-tail handles
- Heritage-profile steel sections matched to the original
Heritage steel window replacement means removing failing original metal windows, typically from the 1920s to 1950s, and fitting new steel windows that copy their slim sections, glazing-bar patterns and opening lights. Read the full guide to heritage steel window replacement.

Heritage steel window replacement in County Durham: questions
Should I repair or replace my steel windows?
If the frames are structurally sound, refurbishment can be cheaper and keeps original fabric. If sections are badly corroded or distorted, replacement is usually better value. We advise after inspecting them.
